DIY Sailboat Ornaments

For the past few years I've enjoyed making a coastal ornament for my  coastal Christmas tree. This year I went with a more nautical vibe for the kids' turquoise and red tree in their playroom and I made some cute DIY Sailboat Ornaments!  They remind me of the ships in bottles and they are easier to make than they look!

To make the Sailboat Ornaments you will need the following items:

(6) 3 inch glass craft ornaments
1 bag of blue crushed shells (found in most craft stores)
wood skewers
small rubber hair bands (or orthodontic bands used for braces)
a piece of white cardstock or printer paper
hot glue gun
gardening trimmer
very narrow tweezers or jewelry making pliers

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of At Home. All opinions are 100% mine.

Seas and Greetings friends! The holiday season is starting and I always feel so rushed and behind in getting our home decorated. With our kitchen renovation happening, life and the house are already a bit chaotic. This year I've decided to get a head start on the decorating in a few rooms, in hopes that we can all relax and enjoy a few pretty spaces in lieu of the drywall dust, contractors, and boxes everywhere. My home office is where I spend a large portion of my time so why not start there? Today I am excited to share with you a beautiful Coastal Christmas Vignette.

The color palette for this coastal display is a soft and serene collection of watery shades of turquoise, snowy white, silver, with touches of sea glass green.  A majority of the lovely items you see are At Home Christmas Decor. If you aren't familiar with At Home, it is a decor superstore! Imagine your large big box stores, but all decor! You can spend all day perusing the aisles, finding fabulous items for your home at everyday low prices. read more...

Hello.... aren't I the cutest little reindeer ever?

My profile is quite stately, if I don't say so myself. This weekend the boys had several soccer games and Ms. Kim thought that she'd surprise them when they got home with a fun Christmas Cocoa and Donut Bar. I'm watching over things 'til they arrive. The decor is merry and bright!

Those toasted pecan topped chocolate glazed donuts are looking mighty fine too... especially read more...

I was scrolling through Instagram earlier and saw a countdown of days until Christmas. My heart skipped a beat. It's really not too far off and there is so much to do still. This year I want to get a head start on decorating so that we can sit back, relax, and enjoy the season! First stop is the foyer. Cue the holiday music please... "We're walkin' in a Coastal Christmasland".

Our area is lucky if it sees any snow until late January or February, so in the meantime, give me starfish, sand and seaglass! Kirklands sent me a surprise box of coastal goodies from their Nautical Noel collection and gave me a challenge to create something lovely. The foyer is now all dressed up in beachy aqua blues, warm glowing golds, and soft snowy whites.

A Winter Wonderland Christmas Tree

This post brought to you by At Home. The content and opinions expressed below are my own.

Do you have teenagers? I have 3 teenagers. The oldest two are girls (19 & 16). Yes, I just heard your slight gasp and for all you fellow southerners, a "blesser' heart" too. Keeping the Christmas magic alive throughout the teen years vs. the grade school years is a bit more challenging. This year I wanted to do something special for the girls. I gave them A Winter Wonderland Christmas Tree all of their own.

My first stop for decorations at nice and low prices everyday is At Home Christmas Decor. They have 101 (yes, 101!!!) different varieties of Christmas Trees trees and a beautiful Tree for Me collection. I've always wanted a white Christmas tree. They have a gorgeous white flocked, full sized one, but this tree was going to be for the girls' room so it needed to be smaller. I found a shimmering white 4' tree that would fit perfectly for them.

Christmas Dining Room Tour

Christmas Eve has always been the highlight of our family's Christmas season. My parents made this day a very special occasion growing up. We dressed up in our holiday best, drank hot wassail, nibbled on hors' doeuvres then sat down for an elegant meal in a beautifully decorated dining room. Mom would bring out the Christmas china and crystal. Afterwards we sang carols, read from scripture and performed our own little Christmas pagent for family and friends. It was quite the celebration! I want to continue the traditions with my own family. You are invited to come and take a little Christmas Dining Room Tour  in silver and gold and see how we will be celebrating Christ's birth!

Let the trumpets sound... a child is born! The chair backs are dressed up with simple chair swags. These are so crazy easy to make and last for a few weeks!

Easy Holiday Chair Swags

Dressing up the back of any dining room chair is a simple way to add an extra special touch to your Christmas decor. If you visited my Christmas Dining Room Tour then you saw the pretty little gold and cedar Christmas horn chair swags. Today we're going to take a look at how to make easy holiday chair swags with just a few items you most likely already have on hand.

Holiday chair swags are incredibly simple to make. The items you will need are:

fresh evergreens
handheld puners
florist wire
scissors
ribbon
embellishments (ex: pinecones, ornaments, bells, etc)

Head into the back yard and see what type of evergreens you might have (or that your neighbor has) ;) . A few good evergreens to use for your holiday chair swags are pine, juniper, holly, boxwood, and red cedar. All of these will last for at a week or two after they are cut. Choose one or group several together to use for your chair swag.

Take into consideration though the type of chair back you have. If it is an open slat back then maybe the holly clippings wouldn't be a smart choice. No one likes being poked by sharp holly when they sit down in their chair! Save the holly for an upholstered chair back read more...

Christmas Decoration Storage Tips

The holidays are about over and it's time to put away all those pretty Christmas decorations. This year get yourself organized so that next year's holiday decorating will be a breeze and you'll have more time to relax and celebrate. Today I'm sharing my 10 Top Christmas Decoration Storage Tips that I know you'll love!

1. Use clear storage bins with colored lids
Clear storage bins make it easy to see what you have inside. I like using 66 quart bins with side latches and colored tops. They hold a lot, but aren't too large to carry. They are sturdy, stackable, the lids won't accidentally pop off, and the lids are colored coordinated for the season. For example: Christmas decor is stored in bins with red lids, fall decor is stored in bins with orange lids. This makes finding the correct bins a breeze!
2. Classify storage bins according to ornament color
Label each bin with a specific color or theme, for example: Silver & Gold, Coastal Decor, Red, White, Family Ornaments, etc. Sort and store all the Christmas decor in the classified bin.
